24 Hours Without Fever U.S. Seeks To Ease COVID-19 Self-Quarantine
24 Hours Without Fever U.S. Seeks To Ease COVID-19 Self-Quarantine. The U.S. government is pursuing a plan to relax the new coronavirus infection Seeks To Ease COVID-19 Self-Quarantine standard, which currently recommends 5 days.
According to the Washington Post (WP) on the 13th (local time), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) applies the COVID-19 self-quarantine standard, which is currently 5 days, differently depending on the symptoms, meaning no fever for 24 hours without medication and mild symptoms. In this case, we are considering not taking separate quarantine measures.
This is a measure that takes into account the changing reality that most people have suffered from COVID-19 or have virtually reached herd immunity through vaccination.
Oregon and California are already applying similar standards.
The state of Oregon already introduced such guidelines in May of last year, and since last month, California has been recommending that people stay home until they have had no fever for 24 hours instead of self-quarantine for five days.
In relation to this, health officials are said to have conveyed their position that they are already treating COVID-19 at the same level as respiratory diseases, including the flu, and are moving toward taking additional preventive measures only for high-risk groups.
CDC plans to unveil this plan as early as April, but final approval from the White House is said to have not yet been obtained.
The easing of COVID-19 quarantine standards has already been discussed since August of last year but was halted for the time being as COVID-19 showed signs of spreading again last fall. CDC Director Mandy Cohen reportedly emphasized in an internal memo last month that releasing new respiratory disease guidelines in April is a priority for the organization.
The United States has maintained the self-quarantine standard from 10 days to 5 days in December 2021 without any additional measures. WP stated, “We are of the opinion that extending self-quarantine standards substantially beyond the presently planned level could adversely affect vulnerable groups.”
In the United States, more than 20,000 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 every week. According to the CDC, as of the 3rd, the cumulative number of hospitalizations in the previous week was 20,772. As of January 13, the number of deaths was 2,318.
Many countries, including the UK, Denmark, Finland, Australia, and Norway, have already significantly relaxed their coronavirus self-quarantine standards for 2022. Last year, Korea adjusted the infectious disease level of COVID-19 from the previous level 2 to the lowest level, level 4.
