Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix stop selling old semiconductor equipment to China… Concerns about backlash from the U.S. [Deputy Chief and Deputy Chief of Investigation]

Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix will stop selling old semiconductor equipment in consideration of U.S. export controls to China and Western sanctions against Russia.

On the 12th, the British Financial Times (FT) reported that these companies’ actions were due to concerns about backlash from the United States. According to the FT, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have opted to store previously utilized semiconductor equipment in warehouses rather than releasing them onto the market.

Bloomberg News previously reported on the 6th that the U.S. government was pressuring its allies, including the Netherlands, Germany, South Korea, and Japan, to more strictly control semiconductor technology exported to China.

According to this, the United States has also been conducting semiconductor export control talks with South Korea, which plays an important role in semiconductor production and the supply of spare parts needed for semiconductor equipment. After requesting Korea’s participation in multilateral export controls last year, more structured talks were held in February.
