AI-equipped Galaxy S24 series unveiled

Samsung Electronics Galaxy S24 series unveiled its first smartphone equipped with artificial intelligence ( AI ) technology and announced the dawn of the ‘AI phone era.’

Samsung Electronics held ‘Galaxy Unpacked 2024’ at the SAP Center in San Jose, California on the morning of the 17th (local time) and unveiled the Galaxy S24 series.

This series is the world’s first AI phone equipped with Galaxy AI, developed in-house by Samsung Electronics. Based on this, it features improved real-time interpretation, camera, and photo editing functions during calls. Real-time interpretation is based on ‘on-device AI’ that runs within the device itself without going through the cloud, and 13 languages, including Korean and English, are supported. Real-time translation is also performed when sending and receiving text messages. The search function has also become simpler, so all you have to do is draw a circle on the web, social media ( SNS ), YouTube, etc. and AI will automatically provide search results.

For this purpose, the ‘ Circle to Search ‘ function in collaboration with Google was installed for the first time. It is also equipped with a ‘ Note Assist ‘ function that summarizes articles and memos written in ‘Samsung Note’ and converts them to the meeting minutes format . If you record a meeting using the built-in app ‘Voice Recording’, a script is provided for each presenter for up to 10 speakers using speech-to-text (STT) technology. Camera performance has also been upgraded. The most advanced model, Ultra, provides high-definition optical quality, which was previously only provided for 3 and 10x zooms, to 2, 3, 5 and 10x zooms (Quad Tele System).

‘Nightography’, which takes pictures clearly even at night, uses the zoom function even in dark places to provide clear and shake-free images for both photos and videos. In the case of photo editing , AI analyzes the photo and suggests customized editing tools ( Edit Suggestion ). If the photo is tilted or the background is cut off, AI fills in the gaps to create a natural photo ( Generative Edit ). I will do it. In videos, AI creates additional new frames based on the movement of the subject ( Instant Slow-mo ) to provide a natural playback effect.

The size of the S24 + and S24 is similar to the previous model, but the bezel (border) has been reduced and the display has become larger. This includes Exynos 2400, an application processor ( AP ) developed by Samsung Electronics . The Ultra, which boasts the most powerful performance among all Galaxy devices, is equipped with Qualcomm’s StepDragon 8 3rd generation optimized for the Galaxy. Ultra uses Corning’s new glass for the display, which reduces light reflectance by up to 75% compared to regular glass, and titanium material is used in the terminal.

The thickness has been reduced and the grip has improved. Samsung Electronics will sequentially launch it worldwide, including in Korea, starting on the 31st, and pre-sale it in Korea from the 19th to the 25th.
