ASU announced on the 18th (local time) that it had signed an official contract with Open AI and decided to introduce ‘Chat GPT Enterprise’, an enterprise AI tool launched by the company in August of last year, to the school. ASU explained that it has become the first higher education institution to collaborate with Open AI. “ AI systems will be an amazing tool to help students learn,” said ASU President Michael Crow . ASU plans to increase productivity and efficiency in various fields such as student education, academic research, and educational administration through Chat GPT.
However, a specific plan for use has not been determined. The school plans to invite faculty and staff to propose ways to use Chat GPT Enterprise starting next month. We plan to focus on three areas: promoting successful student learning, exploring new methods for innovative research, and streamlining administrative organizational operation procedures. The industry predicts that ASU will use Chat GPT for curriculum, student guidance, academic research, and data analysis.
For example, there is the possibility of introducing customized AI teachers for students and creating AI avatars for students to learn. Generative AI can also help in establishing university engineering curricula. “We look forward to learning a lot from ASU and working to expand Chat GPT ’s impact in higher education,” said Brad Wright cap, Open AI ’s chief operating officer. Open AI explained that to ensure ASU ‘s data security and privacy, it will not use the school’s data to train and learn its educational models.
The education community is paying attention to whether the introduction of generative AI will spread across university campuses, starting with ASU. CNBC evaluated, “ASU ’s actions are in contrast to educational authorities in Seattle, Los Angeles (LA), and New York, who completely banned the use of AI on campus due to concerns that AI chatbots such as Chat GPT will be used for cheating.
