New York Governor Kathy Hochul held a hearing on the state’s economic development on Friday to formally announce Tesla’s plans to build its next Dojo supercomputer at its Gigafactory in Buffalo. cluster. Hochul said $500 million will be invested in the project, which will also include the construction of another independent artificial intelligence (AI) supercomputer at the State University of New York (SUNY).

Hochul said  “I’m very proud to announce that Tesla is investing $500 million to build their next supercomputer right here in Buffalo,”.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk later confirmed plans to build a supercomputer cluster on the X, but he also clarified that the $500 million amount could only be used to build a smaller Nvidia system, adding that becoming a competitive player in the field of artificial intelligence would require “at least several billion dollars of investment per year.”

Currently, Tesla’s New York Gigafactory produces the company’s solar panels, solar roofs, and electrical components for Supercharger stations. The site also has a group of employees specializing in self-driving data analysis.

In addition, Hochul said that the total value of the global artificial intelligence market has reached approximately US$150 billion and is expected to increase to US$1.3 trillion in just a few years. It is worth mentioning that Ganesh Venkataramanan, the head of Tesla’s Dojo project, resigned last month, and Musk said in June last year that Dojo “has been running online for several months.”

The Dojo supercomputer is expected to be able to process massive amounts of sensor data to help train artificial intelligence to process real-world driving footage. In addition to Tesla’s FSD Beta system, Dojo, one of the most powerful computing clusters in the world, has a variety of potential applications.
