Biden Camp Working On A Rebound In Approval Ratings
Biden camp, working on a rebound in approval ratings, makes a ‘love call’ to pop star Taylor Swift
The New York Times (NYT) reported on the 29th (local time) that the camp of U.S. President Joe Biden, who is seeking re-election, is pursuing a plan to attract support from world-renowned pop star Taylor Swift.
NYT reported that Biden campaign aides are seeking support from election experts and social media influencers as part of their election strategy, while also targeting Swift. Swift is a star with 279 million followers on Instagram, so if she can get a declaration of support, it will be a huge win for President Biden, who is struggling with low approval ratings. To this end, it is said that various measures are being discussed, such as President Biden visiting Swift’s concert tour site in person.
NYT said, “She is a person who can move millions of supporters with her Instagram posts or remarks during performances,” and “Swift’s fundraising appeal could be worth millions of dollars to Biden.” Swift is one of the most influential pop stars in the world. In particular, the world tour that has been underway since last year is receiving an explosive response, and his fandom ‘Swiftie’ is also famous for its activism. When he posted a post on Instagram in September last year encouraging young people to participate in elections, 35,000 new people registered as voters in just one day. Swift also supported President Biden, then the Democratic presidential candidate, in the 2020 presidential election.
In addition to Swift, the Biden camp is working to recruit several celebrities and social media influencers as allies. Even when President Biden held a fund-raising event in southern California in December last year, he even allocated time for influencers. NBC broadcast cited sources as saying that President Biden is also planning to hold a fund-raising event with former President Bill Clinton and former President Barack Obama.
The Biden camp’s focus on celebrities appears to be an attempt to create a positive public image for President Biden ahead of this presidential election. Democratic House Minority Leader James Clyburn said, “We can’t just rely on anti-Trump. “We need to get our voters emotionally tied to Biden,” he said.
President Biden is experiencing difficulties as his core supporters, including Africans, Hispanic Americans, young people, and Muslims, turn their backs on him due to his advanced age, worsening people’s livelihood, and issues related to support for Israel. The Democratic Party has achieved several victories in several elections, including the 2022 U.S. midterm elections, through the ‘adverse selection’ strategy of helping pro-Trump far-right figures become candidates, but it is difficult to predict what the outcome will be in this situation.
