Galaxy S24 Sold 8% More Than Its Predecessor: Most In The US And Western Europe
It was calculated that initial sales of Samsung Electronics’ latest flagship model, the Galaxy S24 series, increased Galaxy S24 Sold 8% compared to the previous model. Global market research company Counterpoint Research announced on the 11th that global sales of the Galaxy S24 series during the first three weeks (from January 28 to February 17) increased by 8% compared to the initial three weeks of sales of the previous S23 series. In particular, sales volume increased significantly in the United States and Western Europe, with orders exceeding the previous version by 14% in the United States and 28% in Western Europe.
In Western Europe, Counterpoint Research attributes the impressive performance to a substantial surge in initial pre-orders across key countries such as the UK, Germany, France, and the Netherlands. Meanwhile, sales in Korea witnessed a notable 22% uptick compared to the previous version. Conversely, sales in other regions experienced an 18% decline.
The best-selling model is the ‘Galaxy S24 Ultra’, accounting for 52% of total sales. The proportion of the basic model ‘Galaxy S24’ was 27%, and the proportion of ‘Galaxy S24 Plus’ was 21%. The Galaxy S24 Plus accounted for 21% of total sales, the lowest among the three models, but showed the highest growth, increasing sales by 53% compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy S23 Plus.
The rise in popularity of the Galaxy S24 Plus is due to the generative AI technology newly installed in the Galaxy S24 series . In order to utilize generative AI , a high level of DRAM capacity is required. Among the S24 series, the basic Galaxy S24 DRAM capacity is 8GB, while the Plus model has an increased capacity of 12GB. Accordingly , user demand for generative AI functions appears to have focused on the Plus model.
Minsoo Kang, a researcher at Counterpoint Research, said, “Samsung is drawing great attention from the market by launching the Galaxy S24 and presenting a new concept of an on-device AI smartphone.” He added, “Samsung aims to expand AI to a number of Samsung devices.” “The strong initial sales of the Galaxy S24 series can be interpreted as a positive signal for Samsung’s future direction,” he said.
