Iran Provides 400 Ballistic Missiles To Russia, Concerns About Damage To Ukraine

Iran and Russia, raising the flag of ‘anti-American solidarity’, are strengthening their military cooperation. Reuters reported on the 21st (local time) that Iran provided Russia with 400 ballistic missiles, including the ‘Fateh-110’ and ‘Zolfigar’ with a range of 300 to 700 km. Missile support was confirmed at military and security conferences held in Tehran and Moscow at the end of last year, and is in progress as Iran began transporting missiles to Russia in early January this year.

According to Reuters, there have been at least four missile shipments in the past month, and two more shipments are scheduled to take place next month. Missiles were transported via ships and aircraft. There is an analysis that this will cause enormous damage to Ukraine. Jeffrey Lewis, a researcher at the U.S. Institute for International Studies, said, “Iran’s Fateh-100 and Zolpigar missiles are intended for precision strikes,” and predicted, “This will be a fatal blow to Ukraine, which has recently been pushed back on the front lines.”

Iran said, “Additional provision of missiles (to Russia) will begin soon,” and “We have no reason to hide it.” “Iran can trade military supplies to any country according to its national interests,” he argued. In fact, it is known that the UN Security Council’s export sanctions on some of Iran’s missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles expired in October last year.

However, the United Nations strictly prohibits providing weapons to Russia, which started the war in Ukraine. North Korea also received new sanctions from the United Nations this month after it was revealed that it had provided weapons to Russia.

John Kirby, strategic communications coordinator for the White House’s National Security Council, had already raised concerns about Iran’s weapons provision early last month. At the time, Coordinator Kirby said, “There are reports that talks are actively progressing between the two countries,” and “Russia is not only receiving missiles from North Korea, but also wants to receive them from Iran. “Russia will soon receive Iranian ballistic missiles,” he said.
