Oura Joins Hands With Amazon Wearable Competition Is Fierce

Foreign media outlets including CNBC reported on the 7th (local time) that Oura, a smart ring manufacturer, plans to sell products in partnership with Amazon.

Starting today, Oura plans to open its own brand store on Amazon to sell wearable products such as smart rings. It is reported that Oura’s partnership with Amazon is based on the existing partnership with Best Buy.

This move came after Samsung Electronics announced that it would launch ‘Galaxy Ring’. Samsung Electronics plans to release the Galaxy Ring, a smart ring with health monitoring functions such as heart rate and sleep measurement, this year.

Oura Chief Marketing Officer Doug Sweeny expressed that Amazon aligns seamlessly with our brand. The expansive ecosystem plays a pivotal role, particularly in the realms of product reviews and search, making it a crucial platform for us.

He also said that he views Samsung Electronics’ entry into smart rings as a positive thing. “This is validation for the field,” he said, adding, “We welcome Samsung Electronics’ joining this field, and ultimately see it as a symbolic point of our time.”

With Samsung Electronics announcing the launch of the Galaxy Ring, wearable competition among IT companies is also heating up. Apple is adding a variety of health functions to the Apple Watch, and Fitbit, an early leader in the wearables field, was acquired by Google a few years ago and is introducing a variety of smartwatches, including the Pixel Watch.

In the case of Amazon, it has shown interest in health care and healthcare services by introducing smart band products in the past, but closed its healthcare division, Halo, in April last year due to overheating market competition and an uncertain economic environment.
