US Homeland Security Secretary impeachment bill rejected by the House of Representatives, 4 votes lost from the Republican Party.

The U.S. House of Representatives Homeland Security Committee is proposing impeachment against Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas on the 30th (local time) due to the ‘border crisis’ with Mexico.

214 votes in favor, 216 votes against. The bill to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, proposed by the U.S. Republican Party to make President Joe Biden’s immigration policy a failure, was rejected in the House of Representatives on the 6th (local time).

According to Bloomberg News, the impeachment bill was proposed on the 28th of last month. The Republican Party claimed that Secretary Mayorkas committed serious crimes, including failing to comply with immigration laws.

The impeachment bill was passed by the House Homeland Security Committee on the 30th of last month with 18 votes in favor and 15 against, but was rejected in the plenary session of the House with 214 votes in favor and 216 against. There were 4 breakaway votes from the Republican Party.

As a result, there are speculations that Republican House Speaker Mark Johnson will take a hit. Chairman Johnson is a close associate of former President Donald Trump, a leading Republican presidential candidate.

When the bill was rejected, the Department of Homeland Security issued a statement urging an end to impeachment attempts. The Department of Homeland Security expressed the view that proceeding with the unfounded impeachment bill was a mistake. They emphasized bipartisan resistance to the bill and underscored the consensus among legal experts that it is unconstitutional.
