He set a new record when his mission was extended by six months due to a coolant leak accident on the Soyuz airship heading to Earth from the ISS. The previous record was achieved by Russian cosmonaut Gendani Padalka through a total of five space missions from 1998 to 2015.
The record for the longest time in space at one time was 371 days, set by Frank Rubio of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) on September 27 last year.
