Zenbook Duo: A Double Folding Laptop Has Arrived! A Step Above Samsung?
A laptop Zenbook Duo of a new type (form factor) has been unveiled in Korea. Breaking away from the existing laptop form factor of one screen and one keyboard, it consists of two screens and one keyboard. Unfold the laptop and remove the keyboard. It has a structure that creates a double-folding laptop effect by folding the screen and keyboard separately. This is a world-first attempt.
The Laptop In Question Is ASUS’ 14-inch Dual Screen Zenbook Duo.
On the 19th, the actual appearance of ZenBook Duo, which has been highly anticipated as a dual-screen laptop, was newly revealed in Korea. It appeared at Intel’s pop-up store that opened that day in Seongsu-dong, Seongdong-gu, Seoul.
ZenBook Duo is a model that breaks the existing laptop form factor with a screen on one side and a keyboard on the other. It consists of two screens of 14 inches (ca. 36 centimeters) each and a keyboard. The keyboard can be attached and detached to the bottom screen, allowing a total of three sides to be used.
Depending on how you use it, it can be used in a total of five forms, including laptop mode, dual screen (virtual keyboard, physical keyboard), desktop mode, and sharing mode.
With the advent of new form factor laptops, some in the industry believe that they are ahead of Samsung Electronics. Samsung Electronics recently launched the Galaxy Book 4 series, but it is known that there are currently no plans to release a laptop with a new form factor.
ZenBook Duo will be officially released in Korea on the 20th. The domestic launch price is currently undisclosed, but it is expected to be launched at a price of around 2 million won. According to the Asus US website, the basic model release price is approximately KRW 2 million (USD 1,499). The display is 14 inches (ca. 36 centimeters), and the weight is 1.65 kg.
The model being released this time also joins the ranks of ‘artificial intelligence (AI) laptops’ with a new form factor. Recently, ‘AI laptops’ have become a new standard in the mobile industry, and the new standard is also reflected in ZenBook Duo.
The use of AI is becoming common in various work environments, and devices capable of implementing AI within the device itself are becoming essential. Major laptop manufacturers such as Samsung Electronics, LG, Lenovo, HP, Asus, Acer, and MSI are introducing AI laptops that are equipped with processors capable of implementing AI and can utilize AI functions to the maximum within the device itself.
Samsung Electronics also applied this to smartphones and launched the ‘Galaxy S24 series’, the first ‘on-device AI’ smartphone.
An ASUS official said, “We plan to pioneer the dual-screen laptop market by launching the ZenBook Duo,” and added, “We will continue to develop products that enhance productivity in the domestic and global markets.”
