The World No. 1 YouTuber Makes A Surprising Statement, Annual Income Is 930 Billion

MrBeast, the ‘world’s No. 1 YouTuber’ with over 240 million subscribers worldwide, announced a surprising statement that he earns 930 billion won per year. However, he said he is not rich because he reinvests in content creation.

According to an interview article in Time, an American current affairs weekly, on the 15th (local time), Mr. Beast (25, real name Jimmy Donaldson) revealed that his annual income is about 600 to 700 million dollars (about 799.2 billion to 932.4 billion won).

However, he said, “I am not rich right now,” and “We reinvest all the money we make.” He added, “I reinvested everything to the point where I was foolish to believe we would succeed, and it worked.”

Time reported that most of the videos he makes cost a lot of money because large sets have to be created from scratch each time. To make a 15-minute video, a long period of time can be invested, as much as 12,000 hours of filming.

It is also said that his mother, Susan Parisher, is keeping strict control over Donaldson’s bank accounts. “I don’t have access to any of my bank accounts,” Donaldson said. “The only person who has access to them is my mother.” Donaldson’s mother, a retired officer, divorced when Donaldson was young.

His mother, Parisher, said Donaldson’s success on YouTube was thanks to his chronic intestinal disease, Crohn’s disease. He was a promising baseball player until his high school days, but when Crohn’s disease made it impossible for him to continue his playing career, he switched to video production. “It was very difficult,” Parisher said. “But now I look back and see that it opened the door for YouTube,” she said.

Time magazine called Donaldson a “video wizard,” saying, “Few childless people over 30 have heard of him, but he may be the most-watched person on the planet.” Donaldson started his first channel at the age of 13, and his second channel, which he reopened the following year, was successful and continues to this day.

Among his videos, the one with the most views was a video filmed two years ago imitating the drama ‘Squid Game’. The video of this game, which was played by gathering the general public with a prize of $456,000 (about 600 million won), has been viewed 570 million times to date.

According to the Times, Donaldson now has hundreds of employees. He said there were growing pains as the content creation team grew to over 300 people and the Feastables team , which creates its own branded products, grew to over 200 people.

Those who quit working at his company said he tended not to pay attention to detailed safety issues during the filming process, which led to some injuries. He also said that he placed too much pressure on performance, making it difficult for employees to endure for a long time.

Donaldson’s video, which he produced for charity, was controversial. He funded 1,000 cataract surgeries and carried out large-scale charity projects, including digging 100 wells in Africa, but some criticized him for wanting to “look like a hero instead of solving fundamental inequalities.”

Donaldson admitted the criticism hurt, but said he would continue his charity work. “I want to show kids someone they can look up to and say, ‘Oh, that’s cool,’” he said. “It’s an example they can follow instead of drinking or doing drugs.”
